Designing Dark-First: Our Approach to Premium UI
Every product we ship starts with a dark canvas. Not because it's trendy — because it's functional for the applications we build.
Why Dark-First
Trading platforms, DeFi dashboards, analytics tools — our clients' users stare at these screens for hours. Dark themes reduce eye strain and make data visualization pop.
The Subtlety Stack
Premium UI isn't about bold colors. It's about subtlety:
- **Border opacity at 5-10%** — just enough to define space without visual noise - **Gradient overlays** — not rainbow gradients, but near-imperceptible shifts from #000 to #0a0a0a - **Typography hierarchy** — we use 3 shades of white (100%, 53%, 33% opacity) for primary, secondary, and muted text - **Micro-interactions** — hover states that feel alive, transitions that respect motion preferences
Font Matters More Than You Think
We test every product with at least 5 typefaces before committing. The difference between a product that feels "startup" and one that feels "premium" is often just the font weight and tracking.
Performance IS Design
A beautiful interface that takes 3 seconds to load isn't premium — it's frustrating. We treat Core Web Vitals as design constraints, not engineering afterthoughts.
